My siblings (Linda Watson and William Howard) and myself (Amanda Francis) are raising funds to sustain a Scholarship we created in honor of our mother, The Sherry Knott Legacy Award. The goal will be to raise enough money to provide 3 scholars to graduating high school seniors for next 2 years so we can build a lasting fund.

$500 dollar scholarship awarded to a student who faces challenges in school but is able to over come them. This award will help them in whatever their next path is.

Two $1000 dollar scholarships to be awarded to 2 students to help with college.

Our mother was a living soul who overcame so much and valued education and youth. We just want to extend that love and passion to the youth.

Our mother struggled with many things during her lifetime, including severe mental illness. One of the hallmarks of her life was her tenacity. In the face of adversity she rose to the occasion time and time again. She was a teen mother, but years later she put herself back through school and earned a degree.

She taught us that circumstance shouldn’t dictate how you live your life, and that you can choose the life you want, and make it work. With that all in mind we want to honor a student who might not be traditionally honored. It’s our firm belief if you are given a chance anyone can turn their life around. We want to award a scholarship to a student who has shown improvement, and growth in their journey. We don’t necessarily expect this student to be college bound, per se. We hope this financial boost might lead to more job training, or perhaps it can lead to helping them find their way to college when the can.
