My name is Marguerite Bradley, you might know me as Maggie Bacon. I am a current student of The San Francisco Art Institute.
On Monday March 23, 2020 an email was sent out to the community of SFAI informing them that the institution would be closing at the end of the current semester. This left no time for students or professors to prepare and make plans for the upcoming fall semester. Most schools have closed their application window and faculty have been hired for fall. All of this happened during the Covid-19 pandemic and while a shleter in place for three weeks was placed on San Francisco, leaving people to deal with this trauma alone and without closure.
As it stands, the common agreement is that unless we can find a major donor who will include the SFAI COMMUNITY (Professors, Students, Alumni and Supporters) in the formulation of a plan to save the institution and not just funnel funds directly into the institution as is, we would like to move forward by putting our efforts into helping our direct community of Artists. The SFAI Community is a large group of Artists who continue to support one another throughout this crisis and future ventures. The sudden announcement of the closing of the institution has left us all jarred. However, rest assured that we are all working hard to provide for each other in this unsettling time.
This a time when the entire nation and world is in crisis and to ask for your support both financially and emotionally is a choice I do not take lightly. I am asking you because I believe that this community has and will continue to contribute to the good of our community and world as a whole.
