PLEASE HELP
By Lora Malakoff - publisher
Our world has not only changed in the last few months, it has been tipped upside down.
For some it means time at home with stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment checks. For others it means homeschooling their kids and a lot of family time and for others it is abject loneliness echoing off the walls in an empty home. There are essential workers working daily and the stress they endure of possibly infecting their loved ones. Then there are the small businesses, some that are shut down and others that are open but without any revenue to sustain them. The Seniors Sunset Times is unfortunately one of the lost revenue businesses.
Overnight I lost over 80% of the revenue that makes it possible to publish. Advertisers had to stop advertising because their businesses are shut down and I understand that. At first we believed it would only last a few weeks, we were hopeful. However, that doesn’t seem to be a possibility now, we are hearing possibly through summer.
I started this paper with my life savings and have spent the last 15 years of blood sweat and tears making sure it remains free for readers - even online. I have been able to spread good news, support local non profits and community events, promote local arts, and give locally owned small businesses affordable and effective advertising. Granted, I wasn’t going to get rich selling free newspapers, but I worked very hard long hours doing good. What could be better?
Now, I’ve exhausted my meager savings keeping the newspaper afloat and I need help. So I ask, humbly, for your help. I am seeking advertising support or donations. Subscriptions cover postage only, but you could subscribe and just add a little extra.
It’s definitely not easy asking for help, I’m a loggers daughter that grew up that you buckle down and get through. But this isn’t just about me or my small business, this is about keeping one of the very LAST locally owned and operated community oriented newspapers available for our readers and the community in business through this shutdown and beyond.
So if you enjoy the Seniors Sunset Times, have ever benefited from the free coverage given or just have a good heart, please become a patron and consider supporting your good news newspaper with a donation Anything is appreciated to help sustain the paper-thank you ♥️
