Seal the Border Cross-Country Bicycle Tour' is not a political statement or partisan matter, though many may view it as so. It speaks of a common sense, safety and National Security issue for all Americans.

My name is Jack Day and I am an 80 year old adventure cyclist from Des Moines, Iowa. This is my 12th unsupported, solo, cross-country bike tour since retirement and I plan to combine my advanced age and extensive experience and knowledge of long distance cycling with a newborn activism to satisfy a severe need to Seal the Border.

There is the hope and desire to bring attention to this dire threat to our nation by pedaling across the USA from the state of Washington to Washington DC in time for the election.

My bike touring budget for 2024 was already depleted prior to having this event in mind, just recently finishing a bicycle challenge that paralleled the Pacific Crest Trail up the Sierra and Cascade Mountains from the Mexican to the Canadian Border (It took two tries due to wildfires). Being only July, I am presently allowed the time to embark on another adventure, but with a purity of national purpose in mind.

Compared to past rides prior to inflationary policies, grocery and cafe food is twice and three times what it was, while campgrounds and motels are at least double in price. And overnight cycling hosts may be reluctant to have me, suffering from alternative views.

No one should shy from standing behind his or her values and convictions. The above relentless, ambitious and openly visible solo effort to campaign for a more secure country is a demonstration of mine. I accept that I may suddenly lose many friends and be called a potpourri of derogatory names but my age and focus render me impervious. In fact, the slander has already begun by being temporarily blocked on Facebook for an unspecified post that fails to meet their standards of child sexual exploitation. Waaa…?

I post only family and bike-ride photos of people and places of interest with commentary. Ha. It’s incredible that they view me as a threat. I see myself as just an everyday, normal guy with an independent thought process who is simply very worried for his extended family, friends and country.

100% dependent on generous donations and volunteers, the ride will potentially provide sag wagons, luggage haul, limited police protection and traffic control. Tenting locations may be found, also. For nourishment, you are on your own.”

After having completed a thousand-mile bike tour already this summer which I can now describe as a warm-up ride, I’d rather be back in Iowa HAVING FUN with my children and 8 grandchildren, sleeping in my own bed, eating good food with friends, driving my car (Ruby), and being lazy and loose like any other 80 year old and admiring beautiful women. But the dangers of the Open Border Policy are forcing me to continue forward with non-stop, ambitious intent. The idea came out of nowhere and how maddening for me that I am unable to say no.”

Reputation is what others think of you. Honor is what you think of yourself, which is of much more profound importance.

“Back in the Stone Age of the early Vietnam Era, I had matured enough to be grateful for my high quality, privileged circumstances as an American within a less fortunate world. With this came the urge to do my share before continuing on a path of life. Prior to college, I enlisted for a tour in the USMC. It was assumed that with the completion of military recompense, mine and my future family’s portion of indebtedness to our country would have been prepaid in full.

Yet, here I am six decades later, 80 years old and our nation is in an even worse internal mess. Every institution is filled with deadly viruses and our civilization is in freefall. Unknown millions of aliens are pouring into the country uncontrolled, causing the worst security issue our country has ever faced. This has again triggered within me that fundamental ‘call-of-duty to make a contribution’ to return. Warrior mode. My honor gives me no choice.”

Images, both video and photo, shall be posted daily. Interviews of everyday folks and their views will be frequent. Like-minded Americans (duty, honor & integrity) of all persuasions are welcome to come wave their flags with exuberance.

Joining us is free for a day or for the total 3,500 miles and 100+ days.
Easy 30 to 50 miles/day pace
Family friendly
Not a race - Almost All Fun.

SAFETY - The ride has the aim to cruise the REAL USA by avoiding, when possible, unlivable high crime cities whose residents have chosen violence, reduced police support, enabled drug gangs, looters, homelessness and squatters, and don’t mind living in neighborhoods which are unsafe. Concentrating on interacting with small towns will also protect against confrontation, aware of the fact that there are now an additional 10-16 million homeless in the country.

Riders and supporters may loosely join in-part along the route for an hour or two, a week or engage for the full ride. Our path will be to follow low traffic roadways and bike trails through small town America. In consideration to you young people, there will be a few challenging mountains to climb along the way and some training is advised. Maybe a lot. A burning butt or sore knees are no fun. There is still time.

Planning and organizing is ongoing, there may be many changes varying with finances as time goes on including routes, distances, volunteership, and on and on.

Adapt. Cyclists don’t whine… much.

Extremism and political ends could twist this serious endeavor into another’s undesired purpose, therefore any sponsorship will be scrupulously viewed. Distribution of funds depends on the numbers of ridership. Maybe no one will show. Possibly thousands will join up. Your largesse will be ride-specific and will never be used for political donation purposes.

All GoFundMe amounts in excess of ride costs will be donated to Tunnel to Towers Foundation - T2T.Org , a 4 star charity. 2024 is my third year of supporting that group. This transfer of funds includes any cancellation of the ride due to dangerous weather conditions and/or outside forces such as wildfires. Since 9-11, the amazing T2T organization has provided over $500 million to surviving Gold Star families in the form of mortgage payoffs, veterans homeless projects and awarding specialized homes to catastrophically injured first responders and military. (95% goes to programs)

“For me, it’s not too late. My family does not live in one of the crime infested, destroyed cities. Sealing the border: a) will insure that my children and their families, friends and the rest of the country shall grow within an atmosphere of law and overall protection. b) will provide a safe path to prosperity during their long and freedom-filled lives, c) will bring about the sure benefit of a return to Honor in being called an American.”

Update July 17, 2024: The Route has recently been revised due to a serious bicycle breakdown. When parts arrive, the cross-country journey will resume again shortly from Napa Valley, California.
