My name is Robin Schultz (@violinrobin on TikTok). I have a wife (Brooke) and two kids (Noah and Zipporah).
In 2023, my son Noah was born. He is a wonderful, sweet kid who has special needs from birth. Although he is 3 years old, he is unable to do the things most children his age do: talk, sit up, walk, or crawl. He requires in-home therapy four times a week, which costs about $30,000 a year.
In 2024, we did genetic testing for my son to figure out what was the root cause of his symptoms, only to discover instead that I (Robin) had a rare genetic condition called Fabry Disease. It's a disease that affects only 6,000 people in the United States and can lead to heart failure, progressive kidney disease, and stroke. The disease attacks the nerves and blood vessels, leading to chronic neuropathy (daily pain in my hands and feet), severe exhaustion, and brain fog. Although there is no cure, there is treatment. The only caveat: the medication I take costs $360,000 a year.
All in all, our family costs about $500,000 a year. Fortunately, our insurance covers most of the expenses, but we still have to pay around $10,000 a year out-of-pocket. This fundraiser is to help out with the insane cost of healthcare we pay on a regular basis. The goal of this fundraiser covers:
- $6,000 in current medical debt
- $4,000 for additional genetic testing for Noah
- $10,000 for yearly treatments and medications
