Hello Schlumpf friends and family,

Please join me in supporting our dear friends Heidi, Remo, Priska, Daisy, Alice and Konrad as they face this unfamiliar and daunting path of cancer.

At the end of April, Heidi received word that a biopsy done on a lump in her breast came back as malignant. Over the next few weeks and following a variety of tests, Heidi and Remo learned that the cancer had spread to her spine and pelvic bone. Heidi has been connected with a cancer team out of London, and has been recommended to start a clinical trial. The trial includes a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as close monitoring by her Oncology team (regular trips to London). Heidi's first treatment was on May 21, and will continue every third week.

Friends, how blessed we are to walk with Heidi and Remo in celebrating the beauty of life – both the everyday challenges and joys of spunky kids and farming, as well as the big moments. Since her diagnosis in April, Heidi has spoken of the countless ways support has been offered and their gratitude for it. Although she is currently on maternity leave with sweet, not so little Konrad, Heidi's job was considered “redundant” this spring. This means that the family is walking the unknown road of cancer without benefits or an income from Heidi, and we do not know when Heidi will be able to return to work. As many of you may appreciate, the cost of cancer is quite extensive. Some of Heidi and Remo's anticipated costs include prescription medication, regular transportation to and from London and naturopathic treatments. As is so often the case this side of heaven, we cannot predict the course Heidi's cancer will take. We hold so much in the unknown and goodness knows there is no lack of things to worry about. Through our support we may be able to help ease some of the financial worries Heidi and Remo face. Thank you for your ongoing emotional, physical, spiritual and financial support.
