Support the Satterwhite Family

*We are deeply sorrowful to share that Rian transitioned on February 12 late at night. He fought valiantly as cancer made its swift and grueling advance. As Bethany and the kids and his extended family process this huge shift in their worlds, this is one way to support them. Bethany is working towards an honorary gathering for Rian on February 23 in Las Vegas; as more information is available, we will share. We’re exploring some electronic ways for folks to engage (perhaps streaming, but also collecting messages shared electronically so his family has those messages about his various impacts. Rian Satterwhite has made impacts close to home and the world over through his personal, professional, and academic involvements. He and his family are beloved by many.

As he navigates an unexpected health detour to tackle stage 4 cancer, many are asking how they can support Rian, Bethany, and the kids. He has cherished getting comments and check-ins on his website (see below for the link) and via text, but we also know that cancer is expensive, even with health insurance. There can be out-of-pocket costs not covered by insurance, traveling and staying away from home for care, commuting to and from medical facilities, trying to maintaining normalcy for the kids, and taking time away from work for Bethany and Rian. As Rian pauses to focus on his health, some of his additional teaching and writing opportunities also need to halt, resulting in changes in income during an uncertain and expensive time.

This GoFundMe is one way to show support for the Satterwhite family to use however they deem is needed as things evolve. The Satterwhites recognize the complexity and many inequities of the world and were hesitant to set something like this up, but friends and colleagues have asked them to consider setting something like this up as loved ones far and wide are asking how they can show support and share some love. Please only contribute within your means and if you wish to do so; they know that support and love come in many forms.
