One in three older adults in the UK goes a full week without speaking to anyone.

Not because they don't matter. But because life moved on and left them behind.

Loneliness among older adults has been declared a public health crisis. The cost to the NHS is billions. The cost to the individuals? Irreversible.

The Royal Day Experience exists to change that. One gathering at a time. One life at a time.

I am Duchess Julian Businge, a Registered Nurse, MSc Social Work student, and Duchess of Civility through the Royal Civility Institute.

For years, I worked in care settings watching older adults deteriorate not from illness alone, but from isolation. The absence of human warmth. The slow erosion of dignity.

I resigned from clinical work to do something about it, and not just manage the symptoms, but address the root.

The Royal Day Experience is a community wellbeing gathering for older adults at 244 Sundon Park Road, Luton. It is warm, dignified, and designed to treat every attendee like royalty, because that is exactly what they are.

Our first event on 25 April 2025 welcomed five people. One attendee told me afterwards: "I forgot what it felt like to laugh with other people." That sentence is why I do this.

We are building something consistent and sustainable aiming for twice-monthly events where older adults can connect, be nourished, share stories, and feel seen. This is not charity in the traditional sense. It is a movement of dignity.

What Your Donation Does

Every pound goes directly to running the Royal Day Experience:

• £5 — covers a warm meal and refreshments for one attendee

• £10 — funds a full place at one Royal Day Experience event

• £25 — sponsors an older adult for a full month of connection

• £50 — helps us run a complete event for five people

• £100 — funds an entire session, including transport support for those who need it

Our £1,800 goal covers six months of consistent, twice-monthly events — reaching an estimated 60–80 older adults in the Luton community.

A Personal Word from Duchess Julian:

I was born into a culture where elders are revered. In Toro Kingdom, Uganda, my heritage and wisdom lives in the elderly.

They are not a burden. They are the archive of everything that matters.

Watching that reverence disappear in Western care systems is painful. The Royal Day Experience is my answer.
