Hello Friends, Family, and Compassionate Supporters, I am reaching out to ask for your help in supporting my niece's family, Kim & Jerome Rogers.
Their five-generational home that has been in Jerome's maternal family since 1971, where their sons Jerome III and Jeremy and three grandkids were living, was reduced to ashes. The three grandkids are ages 7, 3, and 3. They lost their most cherished possessions, treasured pictures, and everything was destroyed. The Rogers home has been a safe haven for family, friends, foster youth, and the community for almost 55 years.
Jeremy is the father of one son aged 3, who is a committed water distribution treatment operator for the Lincoln Avenue Water Company in Altadena. He has experienced significant hardships. Unfortunately, his child's maternal grandmother also lost her home, and his preschool is gone. The company house Jeremy was to live in was destroyed by fire in 2022, rebuilt in 2024, and then burned down again on January 8th, 2025. Despite having to undergo multiple brain surgeries in 2023 due to being diagnosed with a benign rare tumor that cannot be removed, Jeremy has returned to work at the plant in efforts to restore and clean the tainted water supply in the community. Jeremy has been recognized by countless families, friends, community partners, and Pasadena Unified School District as a very helpful Master Gardener. He often volunteers his time to help develop gardens, as a previous student and alumni since 2008. He was also a key member of the team that established and maintains John Muir High Ranch and all the school community gardens.
Son Jerome III, a single father and primary caregiver of two children ages 7 and 3, abruptly evacuated with the clothes on their backs. He recently obtained an electrician technician diploma in February 2024 but has not been able to secure an apprenticeship to acquire hours needed to become a journeyman, willing to work any hours. Jerome hopes to gain employment and become part of restoring Altadena.
Their parents Jerome and Kim are assisting with gathering clothing and essentials for the family. The Rogers' main home and the whole block are still intact, but it was looted, ransacked, and doors left wide open! The National Guard has not allowed the family to return since the evacuation on January 8th to recover anything.
The outpouring of kindness shown to the Altadena community is so overwhelming. All we can say is God is Awesome!!! We know his supernatural love and amazing saving grace will continue to protect, provide, and restore. No weapon formed against them will prosper. We’re ceaselessly praying for everyone affected.❤️
Your help will allow the Rogers family to address the many aspects of recovery to support the family through this crisis. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference.
With love and gratitude, Reginald Cargo on behalf of Jerome II & Kim Rogers.
