1/26 Update:

Laura suffered additional strokes a few days after her first one while she was in ICU. This was very difficult for her and her family, with many side effects and limited movement on her left side.

Laura has improved substantially since these strokes. She has gradually gained more movement back. She is doing well in her therapies and is still hospitalized. She also has been recovering from infection.

She is a fighter and she is eager to heal.

Her family is in the process of planning sweet Teresa’s funeral. It will be held soon, and that information will be posted here when the date is confirmed.

The family is extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and support, and for the many generous donations which will help fund Teresa’s funeral and Laura’s medical bills.

Please continue to pray for Laura!

1/2/25 Update:

On the morning of January 1st, while Laura was still in the ICU, she suffered a stroke.

They life-flighted her from Lake View Hospital to another hospital and removed the clot. She is currently not able to speak but, is getting movement back in the right side of her body.

The family is overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the texts, calls, prayers, and donations from family, friends, and even people they don’t know.

Thank you for your love and please pray for Laura and her family.

On Friday, December 27th, Teresa Richmond Riggs unexpectedly passed away in her sleep at home, after health complications connected to a recent hospital stay.

When Teresa’s mother, Laura, learned of her medical emergency, she immediately went to Teresa’s home. When she was informed of Teresa’s death, Laura suffered a heart attack—a mother’s heart broken by the loss of her precious daughter.

Thankfully, because she was surrounded by first responders, they acted quickly and rushed her to the hospital, where she received life saving medical care.

Now, Laura is left grieving the loss of her daughter while trying to recover herself. She is also preparing for funeral arrangements, just one month after burying her mother and three years after losing her husband.

During this time, so many kind and generous people have asked how they can help this family or ease their burden. I hope this page can help alleviate the financial stress of the unexpected medical and funeral expenses they are now facing. Please keep the Richmond family in your prayers, especially Teresa’s husband, Dustin Riggs, and for Laura’s full recovery.

If preferred, you may also donate directly to the family via Whitney Knight's Venmo account @jwknight.
