The Rehkemper family hasn’t asked for this — we are simply people who have grown close to them over the years, and we’re putting this together in hopes of helping in any way we can.
Three years ago, Andy Rehkemper suffered a heart attack and cardiac arrest that led to a severe brain injury due to a lack of oxygen during resuscitation. What followed was an incredibly difficult and emotional journey — weeks in the ICU, a long hospital stay, and a transfer to a rehab facility where Andy began the process of recovery.
Despite unimaginable challenges, Andy showed signs of hope and improvement. He regained memories of his wife, Catie, their three daughters — Libby, Mia, and Marycate — and his parents and brother — Art, Betty, and Dave. He worked daily to relearn the most basic parts of life. As Catie once shared, Andy told her, “I start out new each day,” a heartbreaking but powerful reflection of his strength and resilience.
Even in the midst of his recovery, Andy never lost his sense of humor or his love for sports. A proud Towson University football alum, and a die-hard fan of the Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Orioles, his light-hearted spirit, competitive drive, and passion for the teams and games he loved never wavered.
Andy and Catie were high school sweethearts, married for 29 years, and built a family full of love, support, and deep devotion. Through it all, Catie stood by his side — as a wife, caregiver, and tireless advocate. But now, heartbreakingly, Andy has passed away.
After everything this family has endured, they are now faced with the emotional and financial weight of laying Andy to rest.
We’re raising funds to help cover funeral costs and to hopefully bring the Rehkempers some peace during this time. Anything you can give — whether it’s a donation or simply a share — means the world to us, and to a family who has meant so much to so many.
Thank you for helping us support them.
