Let's help Artsakh's women and children recover
Dear supporters,
We are in truly unprecedented times, and Artsakh’s families need our support now, more than ever before.
The devastating war in Artsakh and its aftermath have exposed many women and children to greater risk, marginalization and violence – often placing them in grave danger. Those who find themselves in abusive households may have little recourse to escape. Women whose husbands have fought in the war and returned with PTSD may face a higher risk of violence.
If this weren’t dire enough, Armenia also has been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic among all countries in the region. The economic vulnerability of women has locked many of them indoors with abusive partners, while uncertainties around finances, health, and security have exacerbated abuse and shattered support networks.
Those of you who have followed our work since we opened our center 10 years ago know that we hold ourselves to the highest standards. 100% of your contribution will go directly to the women and children we serve who are in greatest need.
We will use a portion of collected funds for financial support to widows of the war. Your contribution will go toward their winter heating bills while also providing them and their children with clothing, blankets, and school supplies. We will use remaining funds to provide comprehensive domestic violence services to women and children who have been directly affected by the war. This includes hotline services, counseling, safe houses, life and parenting skills education, vocational counseling, legal assistance, and other educational programs.
Let us come together to ensure that women and children affected by the Artsakh war stay safe and warm, with access to life-saving services. Thank you for your continued support.
About the Women's Support Center (WSC)
Established in 2010, the WSC is the premiere domestic violence center in Armenia dedicated to preventing and combating domestic abuse. We work to protect, rehabilitate, and empower survivors and change the legal, educational, and social conditions that contribute to a culture of silence surrounding domestic violence.
The WSC makes change in three key areas: improvement of service delivery, prevention, and strengthening of institutional responses. Annually, the WSC provides comprehensive services to roughly 350 beneficiaries, including 60 shelter residents. We train hundreds of service providers across the country and work to strengthen the institutional domestic violence response. Today, many of our beneficiaries are living free of abuse and are proud spokespersons for combating domestic violence, which has had a powerful ripple-effect on the larger public.
*Please note that Tufenkian Foundation will be managing funds and sending all funds raised directly to the Women's Support Center in Armenia to support the above initiative.*
