Hello, we are Kevin and Wendy Mazariegos, the nephew and niece of Everilda Mazariegos and Luis Ramirez. We are sharing this story on behalf of them.

In the early morning of October 30, 2024, their world turned upside down. Evelyn, the 17-year-old daughter of Luis Ramirez and Everilda Mazariegos, woke up at 1:30am to the smell of smoke. With quick thinking, she rushed to wake her parents and alert her family of the fire consuming their home. In a matter of moments, they fled with only the clothes on their backs, holding tight to their two toddlers. In those few terrifying seconds, the family left behind them: years of cherished memories, belongings, and their sense of home.

Luis and Everilda’s family includes five children, all now devastated by the loss. Emily, 21, a student at Syracuse University, and Cristian, 24, both lived at home and lost everything along with their parents and siblings. They always prioritized providing for and supporting their children’s dreams. This hardworking family, known for their devotion to Our Lady of Loretto Church and their selflessness within their community, now face the unthinkable task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. They’ve spent years giving back to others, and today they find themselves in need of kindness in return.
