On a quiet day in our neighborhood, the Ramirez family's world was turned upside down when a reckless driver sped through their neighbor's front yard before crashing into the power lines and the Ramirez family's parked minivan, which then knocked into their SUV. Both vehicles were destroyed. This is not the first time this has happened—the same van has driven through our front yard last August. The repeated incidents have left our community feeling unsafe, especially with so many children living and playing on our street.

What makes this situation even more frightening is that two of the Ramirez children were playing soccer outside just moments before the accident. Thankfully, they had gone inside to get sweaters before returning to play, and it is truly a miracle that no one was harmed. The minivan belonged to a single mother whose teenage son relied on it to get to work and attend classes at GRCC, while the SUV belonged to her sister. Losing both vehicles at once has created a huge challenge for the family, making it difficult for them to manage daily responsibilities and stay connected to work and school.
