The Quito Project is celebrating 20 years!
Over the last 20 years, The Quito Project (TQP) has been implementing education, health, and social programs in partnership with Ecuadorian Universities, the Ministry of Health, and local civil society organizations in communities in southern Quito.
TQP is based at the University of Michigan, and thanks to the enthusiastic leadership and talent of so many students and faculty across the university, TQP has been able to:
- Run summer camps and expanded learning opportunities for community children
- Offer primary and urgent medical care and dental services to expand and complement Ministry of Health services.
- Conduct 7 implementation research trials on topics including maternal-child health and mental health, in collaboration with Ecuadorian universities, to inform Ministry of Health programming.
- Create a documentary film, La Curacion, about traditional healing practices in Ecuador, that has been inducted into the U.S. National Library of Medicine
- Conduct community-based needs assessments
- Work with communities to build community gardens, positive parenting classes, workshops and community groups for alcoholism and domestic abuse, and many other social programs
- Offer extensive nutrition and health education programming, including play-based workshops for children, cooking classes, and recipe-sharing forums in the community.
- Provide learning opportunities for hundreds of students and faculty at UM and Ecuadorian Universities.
TQP continues to make an impact on the communities of Southern Quito, and has been formative for so many TQP alums.
Let's support TQP to continue growing, serve communities in Quito, and provide rich learning and exchange for students and faculty at UM and Ecuadorian universities. Whether you are an alum of TQP, a friend or loved one of a former TQP member, or simply interested in making a difference, please consider making a donation today. Any amount is most appreciated!
If you would like to support TQP by attending the gala in Ann Arbor on Friday April 26, you may register here (all are welcome!)
If you are a TQP alum, please consider filling out this short google form on what TQP meant to you, to be shared at the gala (anonymously if you wish):
I will collect all funds and present them to the TQP executive board at the gala on behalf of all TQP alums and donors listed here. Your name will be included as a donor (no amounts).
Alternatively, you may donate on the MGiving website.
Feel free to share this fundraiser widely with your networks!
