In 2018, the Qarqouz family brought a taste of Syria to Sudbury with the opening of their first Damascus Shawarma on Beech Street. Known not only for their incredible food but also for their generosity and charitable spirit, they quickly became a valued part of our community.

After just three years, they were forced to close that original location due to the building’s scheduled demolition. Seven months later, they found a new home on Lasalle Blvd and reopened — determined to continue their passion for cooking, community, and supporting those in need.

But just months into this new chapter, a fire in a neighbouring business forced them to close once again. Since then, they’ve faced ongoing challenges in trying to recover and rebuild. They have indicated that they are in urgent need of repairs to their AC unit, walk-in cooler, and freezer — all essential to running their restaurant and preventing further food loss.

Despite everything, the Qarqouz family remains incredibly positive and proud to call Sudbury home. They have expressed immense gratitude for the outpouring of support from Sudburians and made it clear that they are not experiencing any harassment within the community, only love and encouragement.

While they were initially hesitant about accepting financial help, they’ve agreed to let us launch this fundraiser to support immediate repairs to their equipment. This will help them get back on their feet, protect their supplies, and provide a comfortable space for customers and staff.
