Support The Prison Sit Project

My name is Eli Rogers, I seek to make art as a way of inspiring us to engage in practices that alleviate suffering within ourselves and others.

The Prison Sit, is a interactive performance art installation that will take place at Burning Man, and hopefully future events. The vision is to build a generic prison cell on the playa, that I will be led into by a guard on the first day of Burning Man, sit in for the full week, begging for food and water from the community. I will be released after the man burns on Saturday. The culture of Burning Man is one with such a emphasis on freedom. This project is a way of honoring those who are living behind bars, while challenging the the culture of excessive consumption. Giving the people of Black Rock City an opportunity of self reflection.

Funding will go to:

• Materials for building the cell: walls, ceiling, metal bars, metal toilet, bed frame, lighting.
• Travel expenses: Gas

(The intention is to source most materials from scrap yards and other waste facilities.)

• All funding raised that goes beyond our bare essentials will be donated to Upaya Zen Center's Prison Outreach Project. Which offers programs teaching meditation, yoga, creative writing, and stress management to people who are incarcerated in an effort to give them a more positive experience while in prison, as well as support them in returning to society.

Those who donate $50 or more will be entered into a raffle to recieve an original painting by Eli Rogers. This piece will be painted specifically for the winner and givin on the Winter Solstice 2025. The winner will be announced on the Fall Equinox 2025.
