With what we have believed to be long term bowel issues, 7yo Camille was taken to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN on Saturday August 8th with intense and excruciating pain, and after blood work and a CT, it was discovered her abdomen was filled with a large, softball sized mass, that had likely been growing since birth and was impeding all of her internal functions. Her bladder was full, her bowels were flattened and it was determined that after an MRI, she would need major open surgery of both her abdomen and back to release and remove the tumor. She bravely entered the estimated 6+ hour surgery on Friday August 14th where a nasogastric feeding tube and PICC line were placed, a supra-pubic catheter was inserted and she was opened to take out this very rare form of mass known as a tail-gut tumor. She would also have her tailbone removed along with the mass. She is recovering and although she has had a bit of struggling with her temp and vital signs out of normal range, she is so bravely working toward getting up and moving and breathing deeply! She is through SOME of the scary parts but the future is yet unknown as we wait for pathology’s assessment of the mass after dissection and the treatment plan that will be recommenced for Camille as she heals.
Elena and Jeff have been with her through it all and are so grateful to be able to, but Jeff is back to work this week to support his family and Elena is able to take a short leave to be will Camille through the next steps. They have travel costs and many unexpected needs that I am hopeful we can all help with as they forge a clear path for this dear little gal to recover.
