Seasons Greeting's friends and Family,
The Pizzola Family has recently received news that no family ever wants to hear. Dr's have found a fairly large tumor located at the base of Matts skull. It is located on his clival bone which sits on the top of the spine. Dr.'s believe it is a specific type of tumor called a Clival Chordoma, it is located between the sinus cavity and the brain. As of most recent, 12/2 the Pizzola's have completed more scans and met with multiple surgeons at OHSU in Portland. Unfortunately, there are no Clival Chordoma specialists at OHSU, so at this time the team is in contact with Clival Chordoma specialists at University of Washington and The Pacific Neuroscience Institute in Santa Monica, California.
Matt is currently unable to work his normal assignment through the Eugene Police Department and Kathleen is also going to be missing work in the near future, just to be present with her husband as they navigate the next steps.
There may be long term stays in either WA, OR and even California, which the girls will travel with them to keep their little family together.
A Pre Operative appointment is currently scheduled for 12/22/23 at OHSU, this will give the Pizzola's a lot more information about the process going forward and when a possible surgery date will be set to remove the tumor, likely being early January.
If you feel so inclined, anything helps for this family that has a lot of travel in their near future with fuel, accommodations, medical bills and basic necessities away from home. As always a sweet message to the family is always welcome and appreciated. Please lift this family in prayer as this has been an incredibly difficult. I will post updates from the family as we receive them.
