The U.S. federal government is in the midst of a prolonged shutdown and some of the aviation system's most important workers need your help.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers and some Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Pittsburgh are going without paychecks -- while continuing to show up for work to keep the national air travel system moving.
These essential officers operate the security checkpoint and international arrivals areas among other vital security roles. More than 200 local officers at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) have been affected since the shutdown began on Feb. 14.
While, the checkpoint at PIT has operated well due to the dedication of these officers throughout this difficult situation, we are hearing of workers struggling with funds for groceries, childcare, and gas for their personal vehicles.
To assist these dedicated public servants on the frontlines of keeping our system safe and secure, the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation has set up this GoFundMe page that will accept donations that will be directly passed on from the Foundation to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to purchase gift cards for groceries, fuel, and other supplies for Pittsburgh TSA and CBP staff affected by the shutdown.
Your donations will help ensure that PIT remains a welcoming and efficient hub for all travelers. Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in supporting this mission!
