Support the Ortiz-Martinez Family After 8th Stroke
Donation protected
In October 2023, José Benesario Martinez experienced a life-altering event, his eighth stroke at only 63 years old. This latest stroke has left him with significant challenges - leaving him bedridden, speech impaired, and entirely dependent on his wife, Johanna Ortiz. Johanna has now become his sole caregiver while also caring for her teenage son, who is on the autism spectrum.
The family is grappling with an overwhelming financial crisis. Rent, medical care, and living expenses are piling up. With José unable to work and Johanna not able to continue her job because she has been dedicating all her time to caregiving for the last four months, the family is struggling to make ends meet. The financial strain adds to the emotional and physical distress the family is enduring.
Johanna’s resilience and commitment have become the backbone of her family's recovery from this crisis. This event has not only impacted José but has transformed Johanna’s life as she stepped into the role of full-time caregiver. He now requires 24/7 attention, and the aid they receive is minimal - even with his required PT, OT, speech therapy, and follow-up appointments. Frequently, these appointments require transportation, which can be difficult due to the complicated medical transportation process. Johanna’s days are a non-stop cycle, beginning at 5:30 in the morning and ending past midnight, filled with endless tasks and emotional labor.
This is a call to support Johanna and her family. Your donations will provide much-needed financial relief, allowing her to focus on the care of her husband and son without the weight of financial worries. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support
Johanna and José.
