As some of you know, I manage the Oak Creek Wild Horses here in the Tehachapi Mountains in California. There are about 100 horses in the herd and quite a few males need to be castrated.
My goal here managing them is just to keep the herd numbers down to what the graze can support. Adoptions, along with castrations help immensely, the castrations also cut down on the infighting among the males and serious injuries.
I have been in contact with the veterinarians with RVETS, and they have agreed to come in September to do the castrations. I am in need of help with the funding for their services. Horse adoption fees have been used for this in the past, but so far, there have only been two adoptions this year. I do not have a non-profit organization, the herd for the most part takes care of itself, just not enough funds this time.
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
