Hey y'all - my name is Abby!
I have a rare condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which causes muscle weakness and therefore requires me to use a wheelchair for independence. Despite my disability, I strive to be an adventurous, outgoing individual! One thing I am grateful for is having the ability to drive using a modified vehicle! You can see how I drive my vehicle in this video!
Having a physical disability can make it hard to navigate the world, but being able to drive has made such an incredible difference in my life. I've been able to pursue some fantastic adventures, including a ONCE IN A LIFETIME ROAD-TRIP I completed this past year. This has been one of the best things I've ever done and I am so grateful the ability to drive has allowed me to live out my life's passions!
My current vehicle, sweet Evangeline, has been my partner in crime for so long. She's been an absolute champ through all these years together, but through all the adventures, she has taken quite the beating! As old age creeps up on her and things begin to break down, I must take into account my safety in having a fully operational vehicle. Therefore… the time has come...for me to get a NEW VAN!
MEET VANGIE!
Vangie is a specialty vehicle that will be specifically built for me, equipt with a ramp, wheelchair lockdowns, and hand controls! As you can imagine, this high-tech equipment is not cheap and must be installed in a brand-new vehicle to ensure the longevity of the modifications. While I am so lucky to live in a world where these modifications can be made, there remains the financial responsibility of purchasing this specialty vehicle.
The reality of living with a disability sometimes includes a lot of burdens, especially the cost of mobility equipment. As I continue to navigate life as independently as possible, I've learned through the years that it is okay to ask for help when I need it. Therefore, I am in a position to call my community together for support in my next... ABBY-VAN-TURE!
I understand the last few years have not been easy on any of us and finances are tough right now! But please know that any contribution at all is deeply appreciated, no matter how big or small - even just a share is so valuable! At the very least, I hope you continue to stay up to date with my "abbyventures" :)
I'm beyond grateful for the amazing, supportive community I have surrounding me. If you made it to the end of this, I want to say THANK YOU for supporting me and my journey.
