As many know, the Virgil community, Greek Peak family, many friends, and the Murphy family lost a legend this past week. John Paul Murphy, aka “Murphy,” age 46, passed away peacefully at home.

John was a friend to so many near and far. He loved snowboarding, mountain biking, hunting, and being with his friends and family. John was a humble and kind person who always welcomed his friends in for conversation or just a quiet space to sit. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and embraced every season. His laughter was contagious, and his simple response, “Murphy’s Law,” when things went sideways, is something I can still hear him saying!

Murphy’s unexpected passing has shocked his family and friends and left a huge hole in the hearts of many. In an effort to help Lucy (John’s mom) and his siblings during this difficult time, we are rallying together with this GoFundMe.

Just over a year ago, they suffered the tragic loss of Jim (John’s dad) following an accident while he was cleaning up from the June 2024 storm that not only covered their property in devastation but also nearly took Murphy’s life when his treehouse that so many loved and enjoyed collapsed with him inside, resulting in a two-week hospital stay and great personal loss.

This year has been nothing short of overwhelming and sad for the Murphy family, with family injuries, hospitalizations of both Jim and John, property damage, and loss. The tragic passing of their beloved husband and father, Jim, and now the loss of their son and baby brother, John. The Murphy family is always the first to offer help and open their doors to anyone in need. We want to honor Murphy’s life and help his family during this difficult time.

All funds raised will go directly to Lucy to assist with expenses for Murphy’s services, celebration of life, and any ongoing expenses she may have.
