*The "goal amount" for this Gofundme is set to increase automatically because I felt too overwhelmed trying to price out how insane the losses have been and again, asking for money is so far out of all of our comfort zones.*
Hey y'all, my name is Jenneca Younger. I'm one of the bartenders at The Mothership in Milwaukee, WI. Our bar has been around for six and a half years, and we've proudly worked to serve our community the best cocktails, beers, and *artisanal mixologist vodka sodas* as we possibly can.
As many experienced firsthand around our region, we were severely affected by the flash flooding that happened in southeastern Wisconsin on August 9th. That night, during what seemed like a regular Saturday service, the staff witnessed something that nightmares are made of, the rain started and didn't stop. Within a matter of twenty minutes, the basement was flooded up to waist level and less than a foot away from rising to the electrical panel for the whole building. We called 911 and started pleading with guests to leave and get to safety. Our staff evacuated that night, hours before we'd normally close our bar, not knowing what the future was going to hold. The water continued to rise that night and eventually got up to our basement ceiling leaving literally everything downstairs submerged. Everything about this experience has been horrifying and heartbreaking.
If you've heard of us, met us, or had us serve you, you know we're a small staff that hates asking for help. I never wanted to have to make one of these for the bar that has been my home for six and a half years. Coming out of Covid, there was nothing I thought our little work family couldn't conquer together—but here I am. We lost everything: our walk-in coolers, compressors, our sound system, the freezer, computers, our merch, our juicers, all the kegs, all our product (yes, everything had to be destroyed), and Ricky's baby aka: the centrifuge (sorry, humor is the only thing helping me right now). Our staff and amazing friends have been putting in work cleaning out everything in the basement, using all their resources to get us information we need and connecting us to anyone who might make sense of things for us. But even with all that help, the insurance payout is minimal and the damage is huge.
So I guess what I'm saying is, the world is mental right now and everyone is going through a lot, but if we've served you, if you know our staff, if you love the bar as much as we do, and you have the means—we sure could use some help right now. Thank you for taking the time to read this, thank you to everyone who has helped, and thank you in advance to anyone who helps in the future. We couldn't do this without you and we can't wait to hug all of you again.
We love you guys so much,
The Ship Crew
P.S.
WE SURVIVED THE PANDEMIC
(AND NOW A NATURAL DISASTER)
AND WE WILL STILL SURVIVE YOUR SHITTY YELP REVIEW.
