Support The Meyer’s In Honor of Bentley

Donation protected
In a quaint little town lived the Meyer family, alongside a brave and beloved soul named Bentley. Bentley, a loyal and resilient golden retriever, had been a cherished member of the Meyer family for 12 wonderful years. His birthday, July 5th, was always a day of celebration, a testament to his strength and tenacity.

Throughout his life, Bentley faced numerous battles, each one a test of his unwavering spirit and his family's unconditional love. At the age of 4, he was diagnosed with heart failure, but with the support of his dedicated family, he fought through it. Over the years, Bentley underwent many surgeries and medical procedures, from a stubborn eye ulcer, heart failure, battling cancer to overcoming a severe blockage from an ill-fated encounter with the trash can ( the only time he ever got into the trash).

Despite the odds stacked against him, Bentley persevered time and time again, proving himself to be a true fighter & even made the New York Times for the heart failure battle. His family spared no expense to ensure he received the best care possible, even if it meant accumulating substantial vet bills that continued to mount. Bentley was more than just a pet; he was a beacon of hope and healing for a family that had weathered its share of storms.

Bentley's presence in the Meyer household was a source of comfort and joy, especially after the loss of their son in 2011. In the midst of personal tragedies and struggles, Bentley emerged as a pillar of strength, offering unconditional love and steadfast loyalty. His warm brown eyes held a world of understanding and empathy, providing solace in times of sorrow and companionship in moments of solitude.

As Bentley's final battle with cancer unfolded, his family stood by his side, holding onto every precious moment spent together. Despite their heartache and the weight of mounting medical expenses, they never wavered in their commitment to Bentley. His legacy of love and resilience had woven itself into the fabric of their lives, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

In the wake of Bentley's passing, the Meyer family found themselves facing not only the loss of a beloved companion and their pillar of strength but also the burden of significant financial strain.

Throughout the past year, our beloved Bentley faced several battles:

1. A severe eye ulcer that required 14 vet trips, multiple ER visits, and surgery (September-November 2023).
2. Dealing with a cancerous tumor, involving extensive testing, surgery for removal, and additional stitching after the initial stitches didn't hold (December 2023).
3. The heartbreaking loss of our cat, Rello, in January 2024, after discovering untreatable cancer through numerous tests.
4. The final battle in May 2024:

Bentley appeared to have a hurt leg, but rapidly deteriorated overnight. Despite our efforts to comfort him, it was clear he needed urgent medical attention. Rushing him to the ER, we faced the prospect of costly diagnostics and treatment for a severe UTI infection. Subsequent tests revealed new cancer already spreading and in his spleen, prompting the difficult realization that his quality of life was at stake. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision we had previously refused to consider.

Determined to honor Bentley's memory and the profound impact he had on their lives, they decided to share his story with the world, friends & family hoping to raise funds to cover the mounting vet bills and final expenses.

Through their shared journey of love, loss, and unwavering devotion, Bentley's legacy lived on, a testament to the enduring bond between humans and their loyal canine companions. In celebrating Bentley's life and the profound impact he had on those around him, the Meyer family found solace in knowing that his memory would continue to inspire love, strength, acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity for years to come. Bentley may have crossed the rainbow bridge, but his fighting spirit would forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love him.
