On December 22 Becca and Gray entered the hospital to welcome their first baby to the world. After 5 hours of pushing it was decided that Becca would need to have an emergency C-section because their baby boy was stuck in the birth canal. Becca’s little body was just too small for him. The C-section was successful and their baby boy made his appearance. However, shortly after getting to do skin to skin and the bonding process had began, Becca started hemorrhaging and was taken back to the OR for a rare cervical tear which was caused during the C-section when they had to push him back up the birth canal. Despite the surgery, she continued to hemorrhage and needed a higher level of care which required her to be transferred to a hospital almost an hour away from her newborn. The plan was to airlift her because she was so critical but the helicopter was not available. She required several units of blood and was becoming more and more critical with her blood pressure dropping as low as 70/30. Thankfully, Becca survived the hour long ambulance ride and was taken to the OR once again for an exploratory surgery in an attempt to find the source of the bleeding. She had lost 10L of blood and had a hemoglobin of 2. Unable to find the source, the doctors made the difficult decision to perform a hysterectomy as a last resort effort to save Becca’s life.
The McCurrys are now focused on Becca’s healing and reuniting with their precious baby boy. If you feel led please consider donating to this sweet family to ease their financial burden and allow them to focus on healing and navigating the new world of parenthood.
