On March 15th, 2025, an EF3 tornado touched down in Maplesville/Chilton County, ripping and destroying ninety percent of what my family owned. In total, we lost a chicken coop, 2 sheds, and a pole barn, which contained several valuable tools and boats, a camper, a horse trailer, several cars, and many miscellaneous items that are now smashed together and/or scattered amongst the debris. Our single wide mobile home has also fallen victim to this devastating tornado as it was flipped and thrown into the nearby pole barn, leaving it in pieces. Following that, several big trees left holes in the roof and busted out windows, which leaked water into our house. We also have several cars we used daily that were badly damaged and totaled, as shown in the pictures above. My parents, Kim and Charlene Matthews, described the experience as right out of the Twister movies. My mom said the doors blew open, making everything loose fly around, and the windows shattered as the wind spun through the house, and just like that, it was gone. But with all of that being said, the Matthews family will continue to need help from companies, schools, and anyone else that would be willing to volunteer or donate whatever you can because right now in times like this, no amount is too small and I know it's going to take a lot of time for my parents and I to build what we had back up, especially considering we did not have insurance as our house wasn't fully finished.
