We received some of the worst news possible about our dearest friend, Anna Malmquist, on Monday, May 31st. She has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia; this type of cancer is very rare. She and her family have a long road ahead of them as they battle this disease. Her current treatment includes in-patient chemotherapy.
Ongoing medical and familial needs will exist for an extended period of time. Anna anticipates being hospitalized for the next 6-8 weeks and will then have at -home recovery that lasts even longer. During her hospitalization, visitation will be limited to family.
This diagnosis has added emotional and financial burdens that the family was not expecting.
Anna is a stay-at-home mom to 3 beautiful children ages 6, 3, and 10 weeks. While she is undergoing treatment, the family has added costs for childcare.
Her husband, Ryan, is committed to being by her side through this journey. He will be taking some unpaid leave from his job which adds another financial hardship to this story.
Additionally, Anna and Ryan will have medical costs that are incurred due to the extensive hospitalization and treatment costs. The exact amount and burden that the medical treatment will have on the family is unknown at this time, but we do know that they will need support.
Anyone who knows Anna will attest to the fact that she is the first person to offer help to those in need, a friendly smile or funny conversation to strangers, and is the last person who asks help of anyone.
Please consider donating on her behalf. She and her family greatly appreciate all of the love they are receiving in messages. We know that many people want to help. You can show your love and support with a donation to ease the financial hardships that the Malmquists are currently facing.
Anna would love to hear from you as well. You can send cards or pictures to her (no flowers or balloons, please) by contacting a common family member or close friend for their home address.
