Hello World,

My name is John Lopez and I am sending this message out into the universe on behalf of my family. On the evening of November 9th, the Lord called my father, Nelson Lopez, home.

299 days ago, I took the picture you see above the day before Nelson was scheduled for a "routine" back surgery. We laughed and joked about it looking like he was being fitted for pregnancy clothing rather than a back brace. He never got to wear that back brace. Surgery was catastrophic, and my father never stood on his own two feet again. For months, the family watched as he slowly deteriorated and then would recover. From being in a coma, to infected bed sores the size of a watermelon, to having a tracheotomy, every day was hell with flashes of hope.

For 10 months my father fought, and fought valiantly, and as much and hard as he fought, his wife Allison, my beautiful stepmother, stood by his side every step of the way. With unmatched grace, she held it together. Constant visits and conversations with doctors and nurses, all while trying to raise her two grandchildren on a single income.

As life goes, when it rains... it poured. Due to internal restructuring at her job, Allison was recently laid off and our family has no source of income.

My father, for everything that he is, has always been a generous spirit, there to lift up those in need. Today, with heavy hearts, we as a family ask for your generosity to properly see to my father's final expenses. Any small contribution helps.
