Please help us reach our goal to complete a documentary on the 1960’s groundbreaking underground comic book artist Joel Beck.
Joel Beck was a brilliant cartoonist and artist, who, during his lifetime, was named Personality of the Decade by a University of California humor magazine and also voted the #1 College Cartoonist in the nation.
Joel’s work first appeared in UC Berkeley's humor magazine The Pelican, and his first three comic books, Lenny of Laredo, Marching Marvin and The Profit published in the mid-1960s, set the stage for the Underground Comic Book revolution to come. Joel was also an accomplished artist and his paintings and fantasy drawings, now highly collectible, range from pen and ink, abstract expressionist paintings to full-scale cartoon portraits.
Joel Beck was a master of storytelling, weaving together elements of satire, social commentary and personal experience to create narratives that were both entertaining and thought-provoking. His art was a reflection of his life ... vibrant, unpredictable, and filled with a sense of wonder and exploration.
We have great stories to tell about Joel and his unusual lifestyle, his fantastic and brilliant cartoons and paintings, and the people who knew and loved him. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and comic book enthusiasts.
Our fundraising goal is $70,000 to complete the documentary on Joel Beck, your contributions will help us meet our production costs.
Your donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!
