Support the Lane Family

Liza Barros Lane lost her husband, Brent Nathan Lane. After a two-day search in Lake Houston, her fears were confirmed; Brent passed away from drowning.  The unanticipated death of Brent has devastated Liza, her stepson Will (11 years old) and her son Roswell (3 years old), as well as all of their family and friends.

For those of you who are lucky to know Liza, she is kind, compassionate, generous,
and selfless with her time, love, support and resources.  She knows no boundaries in her love of people. Most people love with 80% of their heart; but Liza, just loves with 110%. She is full throttle; a true social worker.  Even through her own incredible sadness and grief, she is looking out to soothe the pain of others. As we cry for the loss, she is determined to tell stories about how Brent loved and pranked everyone around him. I can honestly say, I know no other person like her.  Students at the University of Houston admire her; her colleagues adore her;  and her family and friends are steadfast in their commitment to help her, Will and Roswell through this incredible loss.

So many people have asked what they can do. Brent was fiercely committed to his children. His loyalty and love for Liza was limitless. One way that we can honor his memory is to ensure that Liza, Will and Roswell can maintain as much normalcy as possible during this difficult time; while they grieve the loss of this incredible man.

Liza and Brent were just getting off the ground. After five years of a PhD program, Liza just started a full-time job at the University of Houston--Downtown in January, 2020.  Brent was still building his private therapy practice focused on grief and loss. Your donations will be used for funeral expenses and to support Liza, Will and Roswell as they adjust to the lost of their husband, father and primary breadwinner.  Part of the funds will go to establishing a college fund for the boys, who--like their father--want to attend Texas A&M.

During this time of the COVID pandemic, Liza and her family whole heartedly know people are struggling. So if you cannot donate, Liza and her family will absolutely appreciate your love, prayers, and positive thoughts. But if you are able to donate something, anything at all, whatever is raised will be focused on the well-being of Liza and her boy's during this time.

I appreciate you, the love you share for Liza and her family, and the kindness that you have to be with her and her family during this time. *** I have arranged that Liza be the beneficiary of the money we have raised for her. I will receive not receive any the money we raised for her. Jodi Berger Cardoso
