Dear Friends,
Imagine a Los Angeles where every neighborhood has a place for poetry. Where young people discover the power of their own voices. Where stories are shared across generations, cultures, and communities. For the past sixteen years, the Los Angeles Poet Society (LAPS) has been building that vision—one poem, one event, and one community at a time.
Today, we're inviting you to become part of that story.
Our goal is simple: 100 Friends of Poetry.
We are looking for 100 supporters to give $100 and help sustain one of Los Angeles' longest-running grassroots literary arts organizations while ensuring our programs remain free and accessible to the public.
Your investment doesn't just fund events—it creates opportunities. It helps young writers find their confidence, gives emerging poets a stage, preserves diverse stories through publishing, and brings communities together through the transformative power of literature.
Every contribution—whether it's $25, $100, $250, or more—helps ensure that poetry continues to thrive throughout Los Angeles.
Our Impact at a Glance
- 16 years serving Los Angeles through literary arts programming (since 2009)
- 100+ literary arts programs presented annually
- 5 signature festivals celebrating poetry, culture, and community
- 300+ featured creatives showcased each year, including poets, authors, musicians, teaching artists, and cultural leaders
- 500–1,000 community voices welcomed to the mic annually through open mics and public readings
- Thousands of audience members engaged through free literary arts programming each year
Since Our Founding, LAPS Has
- Published emerging writers and amplified underrepresented voices through LAPS Press
- Created a legacy of free and accessible programming serving youth, families, LGBTQIA+ communities, and historically underrepresented populations
- Fostered creative expression, literacy, mentorship, and civic engagement through poetry and storytelling
Partnerships and Collaborations
We are honored to have established trusted partnerships with the Eastside Arts Initiative, Pueblo y Salud, LA County Fair, Floricanto Center for the Arts, Queer Mercado, Get Lit, Homeboy Art Academy, East Los Angeles College, Occidental College, The Libros, Beyond Baroque, Tía Chucha's Centro Cultural, Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, Sims Library of Poetry, California Poets in the Schools, the City of Santa Monica, the Los Angeles Public Library, Lit Crawl LA, and numerous community organizations that share our commitment to expanding access to the literary arts.
Current Campaign Goal
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to continue our year-round literary arts programming and assist in producing our upcoming season of events, including the LA Street Poetry Festival, Always Running Book Festival, Los Angeles Poet Society's 17th Anniversary Celebration, and our next cycle of publications through LAPS Press.
