Help Support the Kim Family During This Difficult Time

Dear friends, neighbors, and community,

We are Jayden's family, and we are creating this fundraiser on behalf of the Kim family.

Just as families were looking forward to the start of summer break, the Kim family's lives changed forever.

On the evening of June 23, 2026, while driving home alone from work, Mr. Kim was involved in a devastating head-on collision in Harrington Park, New Jersey. He lost consciousness at the scene and was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he underwent emergency abdominal surgery and multiple brain procedures.

Mr. Kim survived, but he suffered a traumatic brain injury, brain hemorrhage, and serious injuries to his neck, ribs, and abdomen. While his physical recovery has been encouraging, his cognitive recovery remains uncertain. His doctors describe his condition as "waxing and waning," and they cannot predict how long it will take him to regain his cognitive abilities. During his hospitalization, he was also diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, which will require additional treatment.

Mr. Kim is a devoted husband and loving father to Ghaon, who will be entering 10th grade at Bergen County Academies, and Nhaon, who will be entering 5th grade in Norwood. Family has always been his priority.

He has also quietly given back to the community for years, volunteering annually at the Norwood Canival and serving through St. Joseph's Church in Demarest with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and its soup kitchen ministry, often alongside Ghaon.

The weeks since the accident have been incredibly difficult. The Kim family has no extended family in the United States, leaving Mrs. Kim to care for two children while managing hospital visits, medical decisions, insurance paperwork, and an uncertain future on her own.

The financial burden is overwhelming. Medical bills, the air ambulance, ICU stay, surgeries, rehabilitation, future treatment, and the loss of the family's primary income continue to grow. Although short-term disability has been requested, payments have been delayed, adding even more uncertainty.

We are asking for your support to help ease some of this burden. Your donation will help cover:

* Medical and hospital expenses

* Air ambulance and rehabilitation costs

* Future neurological treatment

* Daily living expenses while Mr. Kim is unable to work

안녕하세요. 저희는 가온이의 친구 Jayden의 가족입니다.

여름방학을 앞두고 모두가 설레는 시간을 보내던 지난 6월 23일, 가온이 가족에게는 너무나 큰 사고가 찾아왔습니다.

가온이 아버님은 퇴근길에 홀로 운전하시던 중 뉴저지 해링턴파크에서 큰 교통사고를 당하셨고, 의식을 잃은 채 헬리콥터로 Hackensack University Medical Center에 긴급 이송되었습니다. 응급 복부수술과 두 차례의 뇌 시술을 받으셨고, 다행히 생명은 구하셨지만 외상성 뇌손상과 뇌출혈, 목, 갈비뼈, 복부의 심각한 부상을 입으셨습니다.

현재 신체적으로는 조금씩 회복하고 계시지만, 인지 기능은 아직 불안정한 상태입니다. 의료진은 회복 시기를 예측하기 어렵다고 설명하고 있으며, 입원 중에는 모야모야병도 진단받아 앞으로도 지속적인 치료와 재활이 필요한 상황입니다.

가온이 아버님은 가족을 위해 누구보다 성실하게 살아오셨습니다. 바쁘신 가운데서도 늘 시간을 내어 학교봉사는 물론, 매년 Norwood Canival과 데마레스트 성당 빈첸시오회, 숲키친 봉사에도 꾸준히 참여하시며 지역사회를 위해 나눔을 실천해 오셨습니다. 무엇보다도 아이들을 가장 사랑하는 아버지였습니다. BCA에 다니는 가온이와 놀우드 초등학교에 다니는 나온이에게는 언제나 든든한 아빠였고, 주말이면 아이들과 시간을 보내는 것을 가장 큰 행복으로 여기셨습니다.

사고 이후 가온이 가족은 너무나 힘든 시간을 보내고 있습니다. 미국에는 가까운 가족이나 친척이 없어, 어머님께서 두 아이를 돌보며 병원과 보험, 각종 행정 절차까지 모두 혼자 감당하고 계십니다.

헬리콥터 이송비와 중환자실 입원비, 수술 및 재활치료비는 물론, 가장의 갑작스러운 소득 중단으로 경제적인 부담도 매우 큰 상황입니다.

모금된 후원금은 병원비, 재활치료비, 향후 치료비와 생활비 등 가온이 가족이 다시 일상을 회복하는 데 소중하게 사용될 예정입니다.

We have been close with the Kim family for many years through the friendship between our older son, Jayden, and Ghaon.
