Tuesday evening, while on the way to the rink for a coach's meeting and hockey practice, Dave got the phone call no one wants: there's a fire at your house and you need to come home. Thankfully, no one was injured. The family displaced includes Dave and Meghan Kerlavage, their father-in-law, four kids, and two dogs. The boys play 10U, 12U, and 14U hockey with the Potomac Patriots and their daughter is excelling in Learn to Play.

The impact of the fire has been overwhelming. In the blink of an eye, they lost clothing, shoes, toiletries, and other essential belongings they need for daily life. Their school and work computers are destroyed, some of their hockey gear was in the garage and now needs to be replaced, and luckily some was in the truck with Dave on the way to practice. The areas and contents of the home that were not destroyed by fire are flooded from the water used to put out the fire. The family is displaced from the home for an extended period of time and will need a lot of support to get through the next few days and weeks and then to start rebuilding their lives.
