As long-time customers of Les Delices and having been on the receiving end of so much that Harry had to give, we have set up a GoFundMe in Harry's name. All proceeds will go to the family.
Harry welcomed so many to the bakery where he created masterpieces, with a personal anecdote, a smile and a cheerful demeanor. We were honored and privileged to partake in so much that he shared with the community.
Les Delices Message:
It is with immense sadness we report that a tragic accident has taken the beloved life of our dear chef, Harry. He always planned to be working until his last day; however, this day came far too soon and too suddenly. On Sunday March 1, 2026 , he was tragically hit by a car while walking on Norbeck Road and was immediately killed.
We never imagined this would be the last days of his life. For 38 years, he loved making cakes for this community. He loved his customers and he poured his love into his baking. With a love for plants and nature, he studied Horticulture in college but life’s circumstances required a shift of direction. He was always good with working with his hands so he explored that route. He had an insatiable hunger for learning. He would leave for weekends in New York to slip into the kitchen of Tavern on the Green which another young chef who quickly became one of his best friends. He worked for free with many bakers just for the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge and skill. He became an expert Patiserie. He was particular in his standards, the high quality ingredients he used and the perfection he expected. He loved to serve and surprise through the unique flavor journeys he’d create for your taste buds. From his classic hazelnut crunch and his mango passion pistachio, to his light and exotic lychee Guava, his extensive gluten free cake selections, to his custom Grand Marnier Carrot cake crunch crafted for his only daughter, he made it hard to choose a favorite. His final creation was a batch production of his delectable Grand Marnier Charlotte, the last cakes crafted completely with his own hands from the delicate ladyfingers, to the sponge cake to the light, airy mousse. His hard working hands now lay to rest. His apron draped over his chair one last time. Finally, his time to create his endless list of ideas has come to an end.
Thankfully, we have Maria, Harry’s trusted right hand who has been learning under him for many years. She ran productions on her own, and preserved recipes and his knowledge for countless years. We are determined to continue his legacy and will have to figure out what that will look like as we adjust to our new reality.
Oh customers, you gave him joy, you became his friends and family. He’d say stop by and talk anytime, don’t buy anything, but just stop by if you’re around. For 38 years, he was a part of your family’s birthdays, celebrations and everything in between. Those mastered hands and genius mind will create for us no more. An endless void in our hearts.
You knew the whole family- from his wife who started with him at the early days, devoted by his side through every trade show and the uncertainty of opening a new business. To Maria, his sister in law who became his right hand and partner. To his daughter, who managed the shop for many years until life brought her the joys of having a family (which many of you celebrated and welcomed with us!) To his son in law, who stepped in as weekend/holiday help in the store and processed all of your online orders. To his brother in law and his son who often provided deliveries. As a proud grandfather, you even saw the newest members of the family stopping by to visit; his grandchildren beginning [and ending] their informal training at just 3 years old and 8 months old. The whole business was family, but YOU also became family.
