In a series of events that can only be described as Florida Adventures In Railroading (FLAIRR), knowing the right people, being there at the right time, and having the right initiative, FLAIRR has reached a tentative agreement (pending funding) to acquire former Seaboard System power car 766743 (built from Atlantic Coast Line baggage car 543) from a local scrapper.
While we are delighted at the opportunity to preserve this piece of history, we are presented with a problem. The car is currently stuck on the side of a mountain in Northern California. This is where we need you; your generosity and your connections.
We estimate roughly $50,000 will be needed to retrieve the railcar from its perch, mechanically evaluate, test, and transport the car cross-country. We also need local connections, knowledge, and support to make the move happen.
Once the car is home, FLAIRR will immediately begin preparations for a cosmetic restoration and evaluations to determine the feasibility of functional restoration. Once functionality is confirmed this rail car will become a vital part of FLAIRR's self-sustainability and outreach Program by providing the power to future rail based activities.
Time is short, if FLAIRR fails to raise the funds, the railcar will be scrapped where it currently sits. Donate, share, or reach out today. No donation is too small, every social media share matters, and every contact made is of extreme value. With your help, we can make this happen.
