Support the Janson Family and Twins
On Friday Miranda went to a routine appointment with her MFM. During the ultrasound her doctor found that the twins have stage 1 TTTS. This is a rare condition that only affects identical twins sharing a placenta. To put it simply, one twin gives the other more blood than she receives, which can cause malnourishment and organ failure. The other twin is getting too much blood which can cause her body to work too hard and puts her at risk of heart complications. It is life threatening for the twins and can progress rapidly. TTTS can be corrected with surgery, but only with highly skilled surgeons.
Miranda and Scott are stationed in Hawaii where there are no doctors who can perform the corrective surgery. In addition, the twin’s shared placenta is anterior, making the surgery more complicated. After much research and many phone calls they discovered there are only two surgeons in the US who are skilled and qualified enough to do this. In order to get the best care they must go out of network and are being referred to the Fetal Institute in Miami with hopes to be seen by Dr. Quintero as soon as possible.
The total cost for care is unknown at this time. They’ve been told $15k for the surgery and $2k per visit to the fetal institute. Hoping Tricare will cover some the hospital portion, but the fetal institute is out of network for insurance so nothing through them will be covered. Any help is greatly appreciated by this family hoping to save their two babies!
