Our Mission

We are a team of community members working to support the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The IRC is a global humanitarian organization that responds to the world’s most urgent crises helping people whose lives have been disrupted by conflict and disaster. The IRC helps these people recover and regain control of their current situation and their future. Our goal is to not only support this mission but also help spread awareness and drive action for real change.

The Reality of the Global Crisis
The scale and urgency of this crisis make it hard to ignore. As of 2026, the world is facing a “New World Disorder,” where humanitarian needs are growing faster than ever while the support needed to address them continues to decline. As of now, there are around 239 million people that require humanitarian assistance, and more than 117 million people have been forcibly displaced from their home due to war and climate change (International Rescue Committee, 2026).

According to the IRC, 1 in 7 people globally are now living in areas affected by active conflict, showing how widespread and complex the situations have become. These are not just statistics, they reflect the reality of millions of people without access to essential human rights like clean water, safe shelter, and medical care. Without stronger awareness and involvement, this gap will continue to grow. We believe that education is one of the most impactful first steps into turning awareness into action and closing the funding gap.

Frontline Health Workers: Heroes amid Mali’s crises
In the heart of the Sahel, where conflicts and climate crises collide, healthcare workers are carrying hope across the most unreachable places in Mali.

In a world of breaking news and short attention spans, few people in the international community know about the conflict in Sahel, and what is happening in Mali. Yet today, over seven million Malians, almost one third of the population, are living through one of the most complex and overlooked humanitarian crises of our time. Conflict, extreme weather, displacement, hunger, and collapsing services have left entire communities isolated, especially in regions like Mopti, where survival is becoming increasingly difficult.

Mali’s humanitarian crisis has worsened in 2025, as growing instability in regions such as Timbuktu, Gao, Mopti, and Menaka continues to disrupt essential services and force families to flee their homes. Armed attacks, blockades, and widespread displacement, now affecting more than 400,000 people, are placing enormous pressure on already fragile communities. At the intersection of conflict, climate shocks, and deepening poverty, Mali has been disproportionately affected by shrinking humanitarian funding, with only 13.5% of this year’s response plan currently funded.

For many families in rural areas such as Ténenkou, families face extreme isolation. Floods, insecurity, and conflict have cut off roads and damaged healthcare facilities, leaving many without access to even basic medical care. Some are forced to live in displacement sites made of fragile makeshift shelters, offering little to no protection from heat, rain, and fear.

In response, IRC-supported mobile health teams travel long and dangerous routes, crossing sand, mud, broken bridges, and checkpoints, to reach those who would otherwise be forgotten. They bring essential care such as treatment for illnesses, nutrition support for severely malnourished children, maternal health services and mental health support.

But amidst these challenges, there is hope. And it comes in the form of people like Aminata Konaté, Dr Mohamed Traoré, and Tula Niono, three local healthcare workers supported by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and funded by the European Union through the Humanitarian Aid Department of the European Commission. They are not famous, but their work is nothing short of heroic.

For the past three years, Aminata has been part of the mobile health team deployed in Ténenkou. “When we arrive, people know help has come”, she says. “We don’t just bring medicine, we bring hope”. The mobile clinics treat everything from malaria to skin infections, hypertension to diabetes. But for Aminata, the most important part of her work is supporting women, especially those who have survived violence.

In Mopti, over 7000 cases of gender-based violence were reported in 2024, yet many women continue to suffer in silence due to fear, shame, and stigma. By integrating protection services into healthcare, IRC’s mobile clinics offer both medical treatment and emotional support in a confidential and secure setting, where women can speak and receive support without judgment.

At the heart of Ténenkou town is the IRC Intensive Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit (URENI), a small facility, where Dr. Mohamed Traoré fights to save the most fragile lives, children suffering from severe malnutrition and life-threatening infections. Each case is urgent, and every delay or denial of care can cost a life. Funded by the EU and managed by the IRC in partnership with local health authorities, the unit sees over 500 critical cases each year. To prevent stockouts, IRC supplies the center with emergency reserves of therapeutic food and medicines. The team also runs psychosocial activities to help children recover emotionally, and teaches families about hygiene and nutrition to prevent future illness.

Meanwhile, midwife Tula Niono works in a newly built community health center that has transformed maternal care in the area. Thanks to the IRC and the EU, it now has solar power, clean water supply, and a fully stocked pharmacy. Before the center was built, pregnant women had to walk for hours or risk dangerous motorbike journeys to reach care. Now, with better facilities and trained staff, more women seek help early, making complications easier to manage.

Despite overwhelming challenges, conflict, insecurity, climate shocks, displacement, and funding shortages, these healthcare workers continue their mission. The courage and commitment of Aminata, Dr. Traoré, and Tula reflect the strength of frontline health workers who deliver care in the most difficult circumstances. They are not famous, but they are the reason thousands of mothers survive childbirth, children recover from malnutrition, and families are given a chance to hope again.

Their message is simple, but powerful: even in the face of crisis, care can still reach people, and every life reached is a life changed.

How The Money Will Be Used
Every dollar donated to this campaign will go directly toward supporting the International Rescue Committee’s programs.

Economic Wellbeing: When refugees first arrive, they need a safe place to call home. Donations will help cover initial costs and essential household items so families can begin their new lives.

Education: Over 127 million children in countries affected by war and displacement are out of school, while many others receive poor quality education. The IRC provides children, youth and adults with safe, quality education opportunities that help them learn the skills they need to survive.

Health: Poor health can undermine people’s potential to improve their lives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The International Rescue Committee helps those who are experiencing or recovering from conflict and disaster reduce their risk of falling ill and receive treatment when they do get sick.
Empowerment: If people do not have the power to make important decisions, they will struggle to improve their lives. The International Rescue Committee helps those who are recovering from conflict and disaster understand their rights and make informed choices for their futures.

Safety: If people cannot find safety, they will struggle to improve their lives. The International Rescue Committee helps those who are recovering from conflict and disaster seek protection from harm, build safer communities, and understand their human rights.
