Support the hunger strike! The Hunger strike will begin at 10am outside of New York City Hall on April 16, and continue, day and night at this location, until the Speaker and Mayor end these racist and violent working conditions. Your donations help ensure all the hunger strikers are kept safe with proper blankets, chairs, and other equipment, and will be used to spread the word about the hunger strike through printing flyers.
Home care workers in New York City have launched a HUNGER STRIKE! After a decade of fighting against 24-hour shifts, immigrant women of color continue to be betrayed by broken promises from politicians.
Just a few days ago, home care workers were on the brink of victory - as Speaker of the City Council Julie Menin promised to bring the No More 24 Act to a vote. This bill would force 24-hour care to be split into two 12-hour shifts, an industry standard in the rest of the state and country. Instead, she bowed to the influence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has been colluding with Governor Kathy Hochul, insurance companies, and special interests to block the legislation. New Yorkers are outraged that 24-hour workdays are being allowed to continue, workers are being told to wait, all while sacrificing their health and lives while caring for our loved ones.
