Support the Huey Restoration Project

Every Vietnam Veteran knows that sound. Its distinctive throbbing heard from miles away is instantly recognisable and brings back long-ago memories. The Huey helicopter, also known by many Aussies as the Iroquois, was truly the Soundtrack of the Vietnam War.

The HARS Aviation Museum at Albion Park NSW, Australia, is restoring an iconic Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) veteran of the Vietnam War – UH-1H A2-703 – and an ex-Royal Australian Navy (RAN) UH-1B 893 at its helicopter facility in Nowra, NSW.

The Shoalhaven Sub-branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (VVAA) is seeking donations, big & small, to help get Huey 703 back in the air for this year’s Vietnam Veterans Day on 18 August 2024.

Along with long-operational ex-Royal Australian Navy (RAN) UH-1B 898 and planned restoration of its sister 893, the restored Huey’s will serve as a mobile monument to honour the courage and commitment of all Vietnam Veterans and those from all three services who flew the beloved helicopter in the Pacific and Middle East. The project will also educate the public about these beloved aircraft and ensure that they live on in history.
