Hello, my name is Arissa Kelleher. Kristen and I have been best friends since 4th grade and I’ve been close with Jesse since they met, as well as their three girls.

Three years ago, Jesse was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. Since then, he has been in a constant fight—enduring countless medical appointments, treatments, and setbacks. Despite aggressive medical intervention, his health has continued to decline, bringing their family to an incredibly painful reality.

Over the past six months, Jesse has shown remarkable strength and commitment to change. He has been completely sober and attends multiple addiction meetings each week. He has worked tirelessly to take accountability for his past and to build a healthier future for himself and for his family. Kristen and their daughters are beyond proud of the dedication, courage, and heart he has shown during this time.

Despite these efforts, the damage to Jesse’s liver is too severe for it to recover. A liver transplant is now his only chance at survival—a second chance that he has fought so hard to be ready for.

While the family is incredibly grateful to have health insurance, the financial burden remains overwhelming. There are many necessary costs that are not fully covered, including lifelong anti-rejection medications, co-pays, medical equipment, and travel/lodging expenses throughout the transplant and recovery process.

Kristen and Jesse are also fortunate to have some paid time off through their employer, but for the past five years, Jesse has consistently worked overtime to support their family. The loss of that additional income during such a long and uncertain recovery—estimated at 4 to 12 months or longer if complications arise—creates a significant financial strain during an already overwhelming time.
