We are thrilled to share some exciting news from our J. B. Blayton Elementary Engineering Club, Williamsburg VA! Our 5th-grade team, The Honey Whirlers, has achieved an incredible milestone—earning 2nd place at the KidWind Regional Competition in March and again at the Virginia State Competition held at JMU on April 12. Their impressive performance has qualified them to represent not only our school, but also our state at the KidWind World Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, May 18–21, 2025!
What is KidWind?
KidWind is a nationwide STEM competition where students explore renewable energy, particularly wind power, through hands-on engineering challenges. Teams design and build their own wind turbines, test them in wind tunnels, and compete based on energy output, innovation, teamwork, and their understanding of renewable energy concepts. It’s an incredible way to apply science, technology, engineering, and math in a fun and meaningful way.
Our team of five dedicated 5th-grade boys has been working together since December, diving deep into the engineering design process, learning about wind energy, and building innovative turbines that really work! Their journey has been filled with problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration—and now they have the chance to take their learning to the world stage.
But they can’t do it without your help.
We are launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for travel and lodging. Your support—no matter the amount—will help these young engineers represent JBB and show the world what curiosity, teamwork, and hard work can achieve.
Support The Honey Whirlers on their journey to the KidWind World Championship!
Thank you for supporting our young engineers. Your generosity helps empower the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers!
Let’s help The Honey Whirlers bring the wind to Phoenix!
