My name is Paul-André Bempéchat, pianist and music historian. I have been gifted the entire music archive (voice/piano, and piano solo) of the distinguished Estonian (Finnish-born) soprano Greta Milius, who fled to Sweden during the war and then settled in the Boston area to become one of the region's most respected pedagogues. Her husband, an excellent pianist, and she formed a duo and performed and recorded quite a lot, so this is part of the archive which is in 3 bankers boxes now at my house. The scores are by composers from Estonia, Latvia, the former USSR, Finland, and of course Sweden where she taught and performed for many years.
I am raising money to help transport these archival materials to a place where they will be stored, taken care of, and be accessible for generations to come. The best place for this is Uppsala University (the central repository for Nordic and Baltic repertoires) and the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm, where students and professionals would liberally consult them for performance and research.
As an honorary fellow of Uppsala's University's Royal Academic Orchestra, I am trying to raise $3000 total to cover flights, hotel, and ground transport costs associated with bringing the materials to Sweden.
Thank you for your support in bringing the legacy of Greta Milius' work to a long-term archival home.
