Support the Herrera Family – A Legacy of Service in Need

They Never Asked for Help. Now They Need Us.

Rick Herrera served over 20 years as a special operator. His wife—a veteran too. Together, they’ve led the Southern Pines Veterans Day Parade for over a decade, stood beside our veterans, and quietly lifted families in need.

They never wanted credit. They just showed up: military service, firefighting, law enforcement, community leadership. They have been like family to us at Children of Fallen Heroes. Rick has been our Vice President for 10 years. His actions speak louder than any words ever could.

When I lost my boy, they were there.

Now, their home has been devastated by a preventable dam failure at Longleaf Dam.
They are not in a designated flood zone. They did not have flood insurance.
No one expected this. Due to the dam breaking the water came in incredibly fast.

Memorabilia from over 20 years of military service—gone. Photos. Letters. Keepsakes. Gone. We’re lucky we even found his retirement certificate in the mud.

This isn’t charity—it’s community. It’s standing by those who have always stood for others.

Help us stand with the Herrera family to reconstruct the parts of their home affected by the "Class 3" water damage.

You can make the difference—right now.
