Home Lost, Hope Needed: Supporting the Hendrix Family After a Devastating Fire

Just days before Christmas, the Hendrix family lost everything.

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, a sudden house fire turned Vanessa and Desmeond Hendrix’s world upside down. In a matter of minutes, their family home was left uninhabitable, and nearly all of their belongings were destroyed. With two daughters—Mercedez (high school) and Milli’n (middle school)—they are now facing the holidays displaced and rebuilding from nothing.

The Day Everything Changed

That Saturday began like any other busy pre-holiday day. Vanessa preparing to run a load of wash before the family headed out to enjoy their community’s Christmas parade. They dropped off food for the potluck and brought their pup along for the festivities.

Then the calls came.

A neighbor urgently asked them to return home immediately.

By the time they arrived, emergency vehicles filled the street and thick smoke poured from the roof. The fire, which started in the dryer, caused extensive smoke, water, and structural damage. Though the home wasn’t fully engulfed, the destruction was severe enough that insurance has declared the house a total loss.

Their home is no longer safe to live in.

Life After the Fire

In the middle of winter—and with Christmas less than two weeks away—the Hendrix family suddenly found themselves without a home.

While insurance is covering temporary housing, finding a place on short notice was incredibly difficult. A kind acquaintance offered a small temporary trailer, and the family is deeply grateful—but the space is tight, and the emotional weight of the loss is overwhelming.

Almost everything they owned is gone, including:

  • Furniture and household items

  • Clothing, school supplies, and personal belongings

  • Irreplaceable sentimental items

Nothing has been deemed salvageable. They are truly starting over.

Why We’re Asking for Help

If you know our village of just 400 people, you know the Hendrix family.

  • Desmeond is a devoted K–8 basketball coach.

  • Vanessa is the first to volunteer, the loudest cheerleader for our kids, and the person who always shows up when others are in need.

They give endlessly to this community. Asking for help does not come easily—but now, they need us.

How Your Donation Helps

Funds raised will help cover critical expenses that insurance does not fully address, including:

  • Insurance deductible so rebuilding can begin

  • Essential household items for temporary living (furniture, kitchen items, linens, toiletries)

  • Replacement clothing and school needs for the girls

  • Long-term rebuilding costs that exceed insurance coverage

Every dollar directly helps this family regain stability and dignity during an incredibly painful time.

About This Fundraiser

I am a close family friend and the co-owner of Mr. Goat’s Morning Woodworks, LLC. While our small business can’t cover a loss of this magnitude, we are using our platform to help raise awareness and support for the Hendrix family—with their full permission.
