On Friday, 19 September, my cousin Lisa and her husband David’s world turned upside down. A fire tore through their home in Bundamba, destroying almost everything they owned. They lost their belongings and their safe space, but thanks to their dog Simba, the alarm was raised before it was too late.
Simba’s frantic barking alerted a neighbour, who quickly called the fire department. Lisa and David weren’t home at the time, and firefighters later told them that if they had been, the heavy smoke and rapid flames would have given them little chance of survival. Simba’s actions not only protected them, but also helped save neighbouring houses from being lost too. He is truly their hero.
Lisa and David are devastated, but also deeply grateful. Right now, they are staying with family and taking each day as it comes, trying to rebuild from the ashes.
Your support will help replace essentials, cover temporary living costs, and start piecing their lives back together.
On behalf of Lisa and David, thank you from the bottom of their hearts for your support and contributions.
