As many of you may know, this has been a challenging year for Shawn and Meg. First, Shawn experienced a minor stroke in December 2022, caused by a previously undetected condition that had likely been present since birth. In April 2023, while undergoing what was expected to be a minor procedure to fix the condition, he unfortunately suffered a more significant stroke, requiring stays in both the hospital and a rehabilitation facility. As he has in the past, Shawn embraced the challenges of rehabilitation and spent the summer steadily improving. And as she has also done in the past, Meg provided him with the love, support, and strength he needed.
In late September, Shawn suffered a brain bleed that required yet another hospital stay, and while thankfully doctors diagnosed it as a reaction to medication and not a more serious condition, it meant a return to “square one,” and he would have to start his rehabilitation all over again.
Shawn, as resilient as anyone could ever be, is working hard on his rehab and making progress, but has been unable to work since April, and currently has no established timetable for when he could return. Meg has continued to work full-time while managing his care, but even with insurance, they have incurred significant medical debt.
Shawn and Meg have spent their whole lives giving love to others, and we know people aware of their challenges this past year have asked what they can do to help. If you are able, donating to this will help with the financial challenges they face with loss of half of their household income and continued medical costs.
