Support The Grinning Bear’s Return

Those who have tried The Grinning Bear food truck know the love that we put into our cuisine, as well as the care for each guest that arrives at our service window. The Grinning Bear has found its way into many of your hearts and bellies over the years.

In 2022, we were voted “Best Food Truck” in San Luis Obispo County with your votes and support. This has always meant the world to me and is a driving factor as to why I decided to reopen. With the dream to give back to the community and the amazing people that have been there for us in the past, I took on the challenge, not knowing of the many obstacles to come.

With the food truck sitting at an RV lot for three years it took on a lot of issues. Just getting it road worthy cost enough to buy another food truck. This was a massive hit and most of what I had saved for re-opening, was gone. However I was determined to provide delicious fried chicken to the county once again!

After all of the initial costly repairs, permits, inspections, and unexpected hurdles, The Grinning Bear finally reopened in April! I was overjoyed to be back at it and found a lot of great opportunities for our comeback.

As the weeks went on, I found that some events were not as busy as advertised. Some of these outings cost me as much to set up as our total revenue for the day. This didn’t stop me from charging forward and looking to the future events.

With Father’s Day booked, I felt confident in getting back on my feet. Then, 10 minutes before opening on Father’s Day, my generator broke down. This is the heart of my truck and the only way that I can function properly. This caused me to miss opportunities to catch up. As well as the means to replace my main generator.

All that being said, I have found myself in a difficult position. The funds that were needed for a strong reopening have been drained by the strain and surprise of life. I don’t want to give in to everything. We just need your help if you want us to grow and provide our cuisine for you and your loved ones. There is so much more that I dream of accomplishing with The Grinning Bear. So many more lives that I want to bring joy into when times are down or if you’re just hankering for some fried chicken. The Grinning Bear wants to be a part of the community and give it the love and support that you all have given us.
