Hello, all! I have created this GoFundMe page with high hopes of relieving some of the financial burden and stress that my dear friend and co-worker, Nicole, and her loved ones are dealing with. Nicole and Mike's son, Dillon, was recently diagnosed with stage 3B Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and medical expenses are quickly adding up. Money is the last thing that this tight-knit bunch should have to worry about. Let's pull together and help this deserving family! - Janine
Dillon's story:
Dillon was diagnosed with Stage 3B Hodgkin's Lymphoma on March 13, 2020, right about the same time as the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. He had no choice but to quickly leave his place of employment, as this outbreak, paired with immunosuppressing treatments, could potentially put him at a higher risk for complications.
Dillon lives with his parents. Nicole, his mother, is a registered nurse. With coronavirus being in full-force and all that Dillon's body is going through, the family deemed it best and safest for Nicole to take a leave of absence from work. Nicole hasn't worked since the diagnosis. This loss of income is a hard hit. Mike, Dillon's father, is currently the sole provider for the family. He is working day and night to make ends meet. Over the course of the last three months, he has gone without a day off.
Within five days of being diagnosed, Dillon had his port placed. He had a bone biopsy, a PET scan, and numerous other tests performed. Each chemotherapy treatment averages $250, and Dillon receives daily injections to keep his blood counts up. Five weeks after his initial port placement, he had to have it replaced, as it became infected. You guessed it - the second port-placement was not covered and had to be paid for. With Dillon's insurance carrier, the family is faced with large copays and out-of-pocket costs. Nicole and Mike have spent mortgage and car payment money on said expenses, because well, that's what you do for your child.
Dillon's body is hurting, yet he remains positive and in good spirits. He will have his second PET scan next Tuesday, and the family is hoping and praying that there is notable improvement. He has a long journey ahead of him, and the family will continue to update!
